In 1844 Rome, Pauline Perdrau painted the Virgin Mary on watercolor and it became known as Mater Admirabilis. The painting was made for the sisters of the Sacred Heart and blessed by Pope Pius IX. Mater Admirabilis means "Mother Most Admirable." Today, Mater remains a symbol for Sacred Heart schools worldwide. Her feast day is celebrated on October 20th and associated with wearing pink.
